Storyline | Packaging & Brand Identity

Storytelling is not just about blurring the lines between fact and fantasy, but rather a dance between audience and entertainer. Storyline explores collaborative storytelling through unorthodox prompts to create truly unique moments.

Branding

Storyline employs vibrant colors, cartoonish characters, and whimsical icons to connect with its audience of teens and young adults. Using the rubber-hose style as a base for the characters allows players to impose their own imagination onto characters. Through user testing complex art styles resulted in people only using the information that was visually present.

To complement the primary elements like the characters, I designed amorphous organic shapes in two formats: complex and simple. These shapes are often used together to allude to the intricate nature of storytelling.

The iconography, text, and logos contrast with the rubbery and organic quality of the other elements, making them easy to identify amidst the visual noise.

Experimentation

I invited several friends with diverse storytelling backgrounds to play-test Storyline. This live experiment significantly enhanced the product's UX and design. With each iterative change, I observed that players could tell better stories, and the gameplay became increasingly seamless and logical.

Mission Statement

Explore the infinite possibilities of storytelling. From wacky plots to absurd character arcs, Storyline invites players to weave a story and tell a tale together.

Packaging

The design of this product’s container mimics a book, featuring a cover, spine, interior pages, and a back cover. The packaging is even designed to open like a book by turning the magnetically sealed cover to reveal the cards, tokens, and instruction booklet.

The footprint of the box was intentionally kept small with the intention that this game could be taken anywhere.
